Our history

130 years of experience in our business broken down into milestones.

1886

Foundation – The Kümpers family established a textile company in Rheine, NRW, Germany, running cloth and textile business.

1996

R&D on HPT technologies – Family Kümpers pioneered the research and development of textile technologies for high performance fibers.

2005

Supply braids to BMW – Started to supply carbon fiber braids for BMW M6 front bumper, which is the first serial production CFRP automotive structural part in the world. A total of 26,000 pieces were supplied in 6 years.

2007

Established JV with SGL – Under the coordination of the BMW Group, Kümpers and SGL Group set up a joint venture company, SGL Kümpers, to supply carbon fiber reinforced fabrics for BMW. SGL and Kümpers owns respectively 51% and 49% of stake in the JV.

2013

2013 Supply NCF for wind blades – Started supplying carbon fiber non-crimp fabrics to Nordex, One of the largest wind turbine blade manufacturer Europe’s. Until today a total of 7.500 tons were supplied with zero complaint.

2014

Supply NCF to Audi – Started to provide carbon fiber non-crimp fabric for Audi. Until today a total of 800 tons of NCF were supplied with zero complaint.

2015

Supply for BMW 7 Series and Volvo – As the sole carbon fiber braid supplier for the A-frame of BMW New 7 Series, completed the production ramp up within 8 weeks. In the same year, began to produce glass fiber woven fabric for Volvo.

2018

2018 Fully own the JV company – The Kümpers family acquired all the shares held by SGL Group in the joint venture.

2020

Go to Asia – Setup the first production facility in China.
